freshwater saltwater question

my friend wants to sell his freshwater tank. I want to buy it cuz it has all the pumps filters and everything but if i want to put saltwater fish in do i have to replace them or are filters and stuff universal ?

you would want to clean them really good! and definately change the media in em.. but pretty much everything is the same.. u will still need live rock, live sand, etc,.. i have a magnum 350 that i converted from my freshwater.. i had to clean it really really good!

What type of filters. Wouldnt recommend an undergravel filter though. These are pretty much a freshwater only type of filter nowdays. Everything else you can just clean up and re-use. Do a lot of reading before you start your marine tank. Otherwise you will make some costly mistakes. Best wishes.
