Frogfish

Well coconut,I think we're the only two who care about these guys :) I'm getting a wartskin for sure, but since I have a 55, it seems hard to find any compatable fish small enough to be hpappy, so maybe I'll get 3 or 4 anglers/frogfish and let them hang out. I've done some reading, are hermits and snails okay with anglers? I know litle fish would be toast, but do they take the time to eat hermits, nudibranch, etc? Again, anyone with tips on keeping Anglers/frogfish would be appreciated, otherwise I'll have to be the frogfish guy after I have experience with them

they should be ok with hermits and snails, but no shrimp or crabs. they will eat anything that will fit in there mouths. try to get different colored ones, maybe a red, a yellow, and a brown. bo

i agree with grouperhead about them not going after hermits and snails. As a precaution you may want to start with a small number of hermits. I wouldn't worry about the snails as much. My main concern about the hermits is they may pick at the skin of the frogfish mistaking it for a tasty bit of live rock.
Frogfish are usually very territorial against their own kind. They will readily attack eachother and inflict serious possibly life threatening wounds. Also one of the main gut contents of wild collected frogfish are members of their own species, so you might not want to put more than one to a tank.

Coco, I agree again. Frogfish rule!! They're one of the fish that reall makes me wish I had a large FOWLR tank. Hermits+snails should be ok with them. They are aggressive towards each other tho. Maybe a dwarf lion, scorpionfish, or a leaf fish in exchange for one of those frogs.

Thanks for all the info, I just added about 40 more lbs. of live rock to set up especially for the frogfish so they have somewhere to hang out
Maybe I can do 2 frogs and a dwarf lion. I don't know anything about scorpionfish or leaf fish - how bout a Fu Manchu? But I also heard they aren't very hardy - any more thoughts?

Funkin, Scorpions and leaf fish are very similar carewise to froggies. They eat everything that has the possibility to fit in its mouth. Leaf fish look like a froggie with a sailfin and don't get bigger than 6in. Scorpions get large 8-16in. depending on species. Be careful which species you purchase. For a fact the only way my LFs gets them is as "Asst. Scorpionfish" which is the only thing on the lists. At the store I feed them ghost shrimp, frozen silversides, frozen prawns, and the occasional damsel when no one is looking lol. Good luck!!!
