Frogspawn Help !!

Hey everyone I am having a problem with frogspawns. My first frogspawn lost all its heads. The heads were healthy, they were not shiveled up when they came off. I had those fairly high up in my tank. I figured I would give it a go with another frogspawn, this time I put them on the bottom of my tank and just yesterday I noticed that it lost two of its heads. It is not in a heavy water flow area. All my other corals and GBTA are doing great, they are healthy. I have no idea why my frogspawns keep doing this. Here are my specs.
55 gallon reef tank
1 - 175 watt MH @20K (Odyssea fixture)
I have 2 either 10k of 12k and 2 actinics blue (part of the Odyssea fixture)
My water conditions are good, I will test them again tonight after work and I can report the findings tomorrow.
I run my lights as follows: 12pm to 11pm blue actinics and 10k or 12k light. The MH light comes on at 1pm and runs till 10pm.
I am thinking that maybe my lights are on too long. Any help in solving this problem is well appreciated.
Thanks - Johnny

I have had my frogspwn for a couple of months and seems to be doing good. It is in the middle of my 55 with strong water flow. I am using 2 150w halides and 2 96w attinics. I feed a couple times a week with mysis shrimp. I hope this helps some.

I appreciate the response but it doesnt really answer my question why my frogspawns are losing there healthy heads, this is my second one and its doing the same thing.

Roll Tide - suggested flow for a frogspawn in med/low flow. Yours may do fine in high flow. Just keep an eye out. JMO

J - I would say post your water parameters as soon as you can. The last time this happened we were told it was lighting maybe getting to much or to little. IDK
I would suggest maybe lowering the amount of time that the MH is on for a start and then go from there.
Sorry I just don't know. Maybe we can get some others to chime in.
Come all :help:

Your frogspawn might not like the 20k bulb. 20k has very low PAR comparing to the 10k or 6500 bulb. Also, aged MH bulbs will even have lower PAR.
Also, do you have any other LPS or SPS in your system?

So what type of bulb should I get 10k, 14k, 15k ??? I yeah a yellow leather, some shrooms, a GSP, and a torch coral, some ricordea as well.

Many LPS will bail out of the skeleton due to high stress with the hope the currents will carry them to a happier place were they can reattach and survive. Often because of light shock ( not being light acclimate when new ) or water conditions, flow, sudden change in S. G., stung by other corals, chemical warfare, ect.

thanks for replying Dogstar, has this happened to you in the past, if so what did you do to fix the problem ?

what lighting were they under at the LFS? i would guess it is being burned.
and if you have 20Ks, that wouldnt make a difference with a frogspawn in a 55, it will definatly get enough light. But if it wasnt under halides at the LFS, then you could be burning it.
PS: i know odyssea claims they have 175 watt HQIs.... they are 150 watt.... it is jsut a 175 watt ballast which are compatible with 150 watt HQI ballasts

so what you are saying is that I really have a 150 watt bulb ?? The frogspawn were under T5's when I bought them over a month ago. So you think they are getting too much light?

if they were under t5s.... and you bought it a month ago, you souldnt be noticing problems right now.
can you please post your water parameters? sometimes something can go wrong in our tanks suddenly.
