What kind of lights do you have? It could be its not getting enough light or it is getting to much light as well.

Mine when I first put it in never came out because it was getting too much light. If you have MH then move it down, if you have pc or something less move it up. Give it a few days in-between the moves, it just takes some time to get used to your tank.

I have 2 150MH and I put mine in medium flow about in the middle of my tank height...It seems to like it there..open all the time.

I've had my frogspawn for 3.5 years, went through a similar process and finally constructed the right spot. Very little flow, protected by a wall of rocks, at the bottom of the tank. That was the key. It doesn't like red slime, get rid of that at first sight.

Forgot to add: My frogspawn likes fresh lighting. I know it 's time to change the bulbs, because my isn't as full as normal.

i have my frogspawn in low flow and directly under one of my 2 150w MH's. i have it at the verytop of the tank. it opens everyday very wide. what are your parameters?

I have a small frogspawn and i found mine liked the very bottom of my tank in the sand. Its very open all day when lights are on and "closes" up at night when lights go off. the bottom of my tank has light flow i would say.

I have had Frogspawn for about 8 years now. 4 seperate colonies/clones.
1 group will not do well in moderate to high flow... while another only opens and sends sweepers under moderate flow from my tanks main return.
The 1 thing that will kill my fogspawn everytime... head after head just melts away... is a change in your alk. I had a real rough time this summer when Phosphates got introduced in my tank. Lots of water changes. Inadvertantly adjusted by tank 3 degs. Lost 12 heads in 5 days.
Check your alk... and if you can, check what it was where you got it from. If you are way over what it was... that could be your problem.

its really weird bc of a night it will open slightly but in the day it dont open at all???
alk test...it took 16 drops so that would be 8. is that good or bad?

I have read that frogspawn likes low flow. I added one to my nano tank over the weekend with mh lights and it wouldn't open that much for a few hours. I checked my salinity and bumped it up a tad to 1.026, moved it from middle less lighted area of bottom of tank in sandbed to right side of tank in full light, turned flow down from high flow to medium flow and there on the right side in high light he is in low flow. one day later bammm.. open 10 times the size and is georgeous. I also add stronium, trace elements, calcium.
if you do a google search you can read more than you want to know about frogspawn.

play with the placement and the flow before you increase salinity, just saying thats what I did. I have always keep mine a little high because of anenomes and inverts. Get close to the tank and watch the water movement. Find the least ammount of movement with decent light and put it there away from everything else. I also have a little medicine dropper that I put some calcium in and squirted it towards it and about 15 minutes later did the same thing with zooplankton.

I just went through this with mine. it has to do with the way the flow hits it and how much light it gets. Moderate flow is good since they like it to ruffle a little and off course the light is a must. SO location is important. move it around adn wait for an hour since how it reacts. The tentacles are super sensitive.

8 degrees for Alk is on the low of good (from my understanding) but if you took it from a tank that runs 10-13degrees, or from a tank that was lower than 8... it could take some time to adjust.
My tank sits solidly at 8... doesn't seem to move unless I do a ton of water changes. Which I recently did to remove clear out a lot of TDS and organics as a result of a major algea die off... long story. Basically went to 12 deg. My Frogspawn and hammers suffered.
