hello everybody, i lost a chromis yesterday due to a ph drop. it was below 8 to about a highish 7.
how do i go about keeping my ph stable? do i need a fuge or is there another way to go abvout this?
i am trying to keep my alkalinity (kH) as stable as possible but it keeps it at a constant of the low that it is at.
what do i do?
possibly im missing something but im a little confused.
any help here would be great..

I hear your fung lights should be "ON" when you display tank is " OFF" to keep the P.H. stable.
Hope this help, good luck

with your wet/dry you should have enough of aeration that your ph shouldnt be swinging much. pH can also be kept in check by correct alk/calc/mag levels.
if you dose alk, your ph should go up just due to the chemicals.
if any other fish had died, i'd think it was pH. but, chromis are killers towards each other, and while your tank is very open, i'd bet on the other chromis kicking it's butt.

I have to agree with renogaw. Highish 7 sooooo what like 7.6-7.9. 7.6is to low but if you are arround 7.8 witch somehow I think is about where you are sitting is ok for fish. Not so much corals and inverts. So I dont ph killing you chromis I would look at something else. Also what are you using to test ph. I know alot of match the color chart type tests for ph are not real accurate. Try to find someone with a ph probe to test it for you.

yeah, i have a kH and cacl test kit. i do my best to keep those in check. but if i understand this right.. they will keep it from swinging and dropping but it has to be at the right 8.0 first then with kH levels in check it will stay?
i have been using some buffer to raise it..

well, only one chromis was breathing very heavy and i found it dead.
i have a 90 stocked with a lott of corals and i have
2 clowns
y tang
tomani tang
6 line
2 chromis.
nobody has a problem with it but i had the lfs check my ph and they thought it was low.
i found it to be a 7.7 ish lol
those dang test strips are a pita.
i have not seen any corals have problems with water quality minus some damaged shipped things.
