Fuge Size

Is there any rule of thumb for how large a fuge should be in relation to tank size? I have a 55+ with a 20 gallon sump (probably only about 16-17 gallons actual) and am going to add a seperate fuge. Because of space limitations, it will have to be smaller than the sump, probably in the 5-7 gallon range. Is that big enough to be of benefit, or am I wasting my efforts?

Okay, Kip. I'll give it a try with the small one. Its bound to be better than nothing. Also, thanks again for the pix of the RO/DI setup. I'm ordering mine today from airwaterice.
