Fuge/sump idea is it reasonable?

Hello i have a 55 gallon tank and i want to make a fuge/sump but the stand i have has a support beam in the middle...i was wondering if i put 2 10 gallon tanks underneath one being the sump the other being the fuge connected with some PVC through drilled holes i would find any problems?
My idea is making the intake lead to the sump where my filters and heater and skimmer would be then have that flow through the pvc into the fuge hitting a few baffles so that no bubbles reach the fuge then 2 more baffles and then the return pump.
I can draw a picture if one is needed..just want to know if i'm going to be able to get enough flow through the fuge using a 2 in pvc connection between sump and fuge.

Yes, but don't run it as a flow thru as described...feed fuge and skimmer seperate (off tank) and have them meet in the return chamber...

Skimmer output should be "before" baffle...baffle keeps bubbles from traveling to return chamber.

With a 10 for a sump and 55 MT...something in the 600 gph range should do nicely...I like the "U" tube type rather than CPR or "box" type overflows...

I am kinda doing the same thing except I am useing a sump refugium from another site plus a 12 gallon trash can. Here is pic of my concept except the sump/refugium I am getting has the baffels a little different but it is the same concept

i am using a 55 gallon for a sump on my 125 and all i did to get it under the stand was take the support board out and replace it after i put the 55 gallon in

I would worry that the trash can will become exactly that and collect a lot of unwanted nasties. Also why would you want to feed your refuge with water that was just skimmed. I always thought it was best to feed skimmer and reufge raw tank water..........
Just a thought.....

Thanks for your help so far Squid
Is there any reason i don't want my skimmer to be in the sump with the rest of the filters and heaters? or should they be in the fuge too?

Skimmer in the sump...being fed raw tank water...feeds to return chamber and return pump..
Fuge on other side being fed raw tank water...and drains to return chamber and return pump...
Heater can be in sump or fuge or both...
What other filters...??? None should be needed if adaquate LR and LS is available in MT, and MT has adaquate flow....

So mechanical filtration is unessisary with 70lbs of LR and a 10 gallon refuge?
Should i add rock to the sump just for bacterial growth or would i be defeating the purpose and displacing to much overall water?

Keep it in the MT where you have adaquate flow to keep it clean...in the sump or fuge they tend to "collect" deitrus.
