First off I got to say that most of us only dream of a tank like that one..... Rookie or not you must know what you are doing!!!!
LOT'S OF REASEARCH. I LIKE TO KNOW WHAT I HAVE AND ALL ABOUT IT.
My question is the mh lights I know you love them but do you have any issues with heat (water temps being to high??).. Do you run a water chiller or you just vent the heck out of the canopy???
I'M PRETTY VENTED BUT HAVE TO USE THE BOTTLED ICE TRICK NOW THAT THE HEAT IS ON. SUMMER WAS NOT BAD BUT I ALSO KEEP MY HOUSE AT 68.And do all the anenomies and corals like the 20k bulbs and antinics??? Lots of blue and hardly any white light...
SO FAR I HAVE NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS THAT I KNOW OF AS FAR AS ANYTHING NOT LIKEING IT.

The reason I ask I love the blue tint of the tank... Alot of people run as do I 1ok bulbs and I do not like how BRIGHT WHITE the tanks looks... My tank is so bright it affects the screen on my laptop when all 6 bulbs are running crazy I know... And I have a brown algea farm growning...
THAT WAS ONE OF THE REASONS I WANTED THE 20 WAS FOR THE BLUE TINT. THINK ABOUT THE OCEAN IS NOT BRIGHT WHITE! THE OTHER REASON I WANTED THE 20'S WAS THE COLOR. THE COLOR OF THE CORALS IS SO MUCH BETTER.
I have duals 6500k and 10k (4 of them) and 2 blue antinics 6x96 on a 125g tank..
It is just tooooo bright..
So that is why I ask about the health of your livestock with the mh and antinics. Because if they are thriving I am selling my setup and going with mh and antinics...
EVERTHING IN MY TANK LOVES THEM. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ AND WAS TOLD I WON'T HAVE AS MUCH OF A GROTH RATE.(TIME WILL TELL)

You talking how big they will get>?? Most of them are of good size now.. With the 20k bulbs will you not grow as much algea as well??
My big problem is I have a center divider in my tank and the manufacturer sayes the mh light s may pop the glass.. So I am looking at this unit. I will not have as much power but I am only 21 inches deep on my tank..
5' DLX 2MH & 2 PC COMPACT FL 2-96W
2 - Metal Halide bulbs (See Option to Upgrade your Metal Halide and ballast to a higher Kelvin (Whiter & Bluer) and/or higher wattage (Brighter). For tank height 18" to 36" use MH 175W / 24" to 36" use MH 250W / 24" to 60" use MH 400W), 2 - 96W 7100K Blue PC Compact Fluorescent bulbs, 2 - 4" fans, High Quality electro-white reflector, Black Aluminum canopy. Dawn to dusk effect - one control for the metal halides and one control for the compact fluorescents. Dimensions: L60"xW11.5"xH6.5"
This unit is a hamilton..
I would go with the dual 175's and dual antinics 2x96 watts for :
544 or 4.3 watts per gallon.. With my tank being so short hamilton does not go to 250's till 24 inches..
Any thoughts ??
Bottled ice trick?? and what is the perfect temp on a tank or what have you read?? I run mine at 76 or so.

these are diatoms. if you want to get rid of diatoms you can run a uv steralizer. these should eleminate diatoms in the water column. if you dont like the idea of the uv steralizer you can go with ozone and an orp controller. just an idea instead of selling your whole lighting setup.

What about coral placement? Looking at where some of them are, you arent worried about the bubble coral stinging and taking out the polyps and fiji yellow sometime in the next 5 years? Because the Fiji and polyp is dossile and the bubble coral is rather agressive (even on the high end).
How is your trigger fairing in a mainly reef tank also? I would assume that it would have taken out most of your inverts by now or most of your inverts would have taken out your corals by now. I just want to know because I want a trigger but there are supposed to be notorious coral and invert eaters. Nice choice for the wave making powerhead additions also. I was looking into buying some of them a couple of months ago.

Yeah as long as it looks good right? who cares if the swinging stinging tentacles are within range of eachother. Like the hammer and bubble being within range of a couple other non-agressive corals. Am I missing something? Can you have them devenomized?

All the corals have room between them and have not yet had any issue. Picture can be decieving as far as spacing. As you also have read I will be upgrading again soon. Just trying to decide what tank. As far as the trigger He has not touched any of the inverts and that includes 2 fire shrimp and 2 cleaner shrimp. From what I was told it will only take out what I add for inverts after him being in there. I also wrap seaweed selects tight to a rock and that helps him to wear at the teeth. He has also never touch a coral. So no problems with him so far. It is also a blue throat trigger and they are know not to be as aggressive and are reef compatible WITH CAUTION.
