Funny BG Chromis

My two BG chromis were added together about 2 years ago. They've been buddies, but lately they do what my 11 yr old calls kissing. Locking jaws is what I see!
Some tail flipping, syncro swimming...has anyone ever had chromis act this way? It is just between them, no other fish involved.

Yeah, out of the mouths of babes. I think They're 'a courtin
Have they been nipping at a particular rock or spot in the tank together? That would make me pretty sure short of actually seeing what they're doin. I wouldn't worry about trying to care for eggs if they do lay them in a community tank. that would be so disruptive to the society.
Congradulation, you're gonna be a Grandma

Hmm. They have separate bedrooms (really). And the tank is too busy for babies to survive, anyway. Poor things.
Are they like clowns in the sense that one will remain female and the least dominant (sorry guys) becomes the male? Is that just a damsel trait?
Thanks for the answers!

I'm not positive but I think that yes the dominant one will remain female and the least dominant will be male. I think it is just for damsels but I don't know.

I'm pretty sure thats right. With them travelling in huge schools thats a lot harder to document than with clowns that have a colony revolving around an anemone. Sorry, not much chance for the babies. Look at the bright side. You've got mating activity in a community salt tank.

Okay, it is BG chromis moving day. I am sick to my stomach. But plenty of buckets around...
The 20 is perfect conditions, after only one week. I'm surprised, but I think the LR from my 55 was a good move.
So, if I don't kill them trying to catch them.... :scared: wish me luck, please.

Be a matador, not a cowboy. Don't chase them with the net, try challenging them with it, like a bullfighter does with his cape. I guess thats hard to describe. Sometimes I'd put a tupperware pitcher with a wide opening spout in the corner and they swim in to get away from the net.
I wonder if he'll carry her across the threshold?

Yeah, 8 hours later. They are in the 20 and look good. Hiding. I'm sure it will take quite a bit of time for them to be comfortable enough for, well...I'll let you know what transpires.
