hey all how is everyone i have a couple of questions?i currently am running a 75 gallon reef ready aga with a 30 gallon sump made into a fuge.i also have a stock strip light.so here is the question part i am going to buy at-5 fixture with 6 bulbs not shore brasnd name everyone talks about them on here with indivual reflectors. with that fixture what will i be able to keep regarding corals ,clams ?????
currently i have 150lbs of rock and 60lbs of sand in my tank it been up about 6 months
also i was thinking of getting 4 maxijet 1200 on a wave maker power strip
and come sort of a canister filter to run carbon and a filter media just to take particles out of water what ya think of my plan

also rethink cannister with any media other than carbon, your rock and sand run a complete nitrogen cycle, the cannister just makes nitrate!

I did a T5 retrofit kit for a really good price. 4x 4ft 54W. I love the T5's, but I do wish I had more room in my hood - I would add a MH to go with the T5's. But personally, I wouldn't replace my T5's with MH's. And I do have a cannister. I wish I would have gone with a refugium. I still have plans on replacing the cannister with one tho.

To answer your question...If you do have T5s wuth individaul reflectors you should be able to keep anything...as long as you are willing to have the high light requirement clams/'stonies' higher in the tank and you add either the
maxijets or koralias to move water within the tank. If you can fit it into the budget consier a combo of T5/MH's like current's outer orbits.
You live near a LFS in Lancaster Pa that has 20-30% off coupons that can be used on any single item. Good way to get big pieces/expensive pieces of equipment 'cheap'

That store does not carry TEK, but does have the newer Outer Orbit Pros with T5s and individual reflectors I believe. That canopy has no MHs, only T5's.

Aquatinics makes a wonderful 48" t-5 fixture with 5 bulbs with ind reflectors,or tek lights. I had maxis on a wavemaker and invariably one of them would start to rattle. Save yourself the grief and $ and go with some koralias and a seio controller, you wont regret it.

i have heard so many problems with the koralias especially if they on timers to go on and off they die quick so im going to get for maxijet 1200and the wave strip and i think im also going to go with the tek 6 bulb strip t5

this is what i think u should consider
for a 75gallon tank with 150lbs of lr and 60lbs of ls u should have ur biological filtration pretty down pat. though it can be done succesfully without one i do suggest u get a skimmer asm, euroreef, deltec h&s,bubble king;these are the best of the best. if your looking for something that is good and u do get what you pay for might i suggest an aquac remora pro. for t-5's yea u can keep anything u want if u have individual reflectors and keep them clean. a good fixture is a tek t-5 they are very sleek and cost i think $464.00 U.S. dollars and i think the 8 bulb combo is like 490 im not sure. the maxi jet 1200 combo is gonna be a pain in your but. they are big and bulky. i suggest getting your self some tunze's the 6045's give u 1180gph of flow and cost $96.00 U.S dollars, since u have a 75 i would get 2 or 3 of them. theres alot of things to consider and its all about how much u wanna spend. is there any budget that u could give us so we could assist you more for your first tank?

yeah, whenever I turn off my koralias, and then turn them back on - they sometimes click/clack initially. I wouldn't put them on a wave/timer - best for continuous use.

Agree - this is more the way to go - budget dependant - you can get less expensive versions if your budget does not allow but you should definitely have a protein skimmer - T5 lights are fine for almost anything - corals require good water movement (10 -15X flow minimum 20-25x optimum)

PH's with the design of Koralias have a turbulent flow output and therefore virtually eliminate the need for a wavemaker if the tank has adequate flow.

Seio controllers never turn the koralia pump completely off. instead they are slowed down and speeded back up in random fashion, this is the same method that is used with tunze controllers. Koralias wont work well at all on a wave strip that turns them off completely. The Maxis are supposed to work when they are turned off and on but invariably one will start to rattle.
