well it might not clear it, the garlic helps their immune system to help them not get ick. the best way to get rid of ick is hypo. once its gone then feed garlic with your feedings

i know everyone is going to disagree with me but in my own experience i got rid of ich by dosing garlic

Garlic extreme in the liquid form is not much of an immune system booster and will definately NOT clear/cure ICH.
The liquid kind is good for stimulating eating and thats it.
In order for it to help boost the immune system it needs to be freshly minced/squeezed.

i dont know i wouldnt really listen to a lfs worker unless they really know there stuff. you can buy a garlic clove mince it up and add a small percentage to the fish's food. im sure you dont want to add too much but i really couldnt tell you how much is too much

Well i know i trust my lfs. He has had it for like 15 years, and he is in it for the hobby and not the money. And i can call him when i want and he even tells me not to buhy certain fish and gives me very good advice. So i guess i can try some garlic

If he sold you a sick fish and hasn't expressed the importance of a QT tank he is steering you wrong.
Sorry Beth, I never stick my head into your domain. I'll duck back out now :hilarious

Oh, and just a very little like a few drops goes a long way. I use fresh garlic rubbed on a garlic card every other day to get just the juice and mix it with the food. So far, "knock on wood", none of my fish have ever had ich and I have had them about 10 months.

Then ich was in your display tank already from a previous fish.

There are only two methods to kill ich, hyposalinity and copper. There are many breeds of fish that are copper sensitive. Hyposalinity is the preferred treatment. ALL fish have been exposed and they all need to be treated.

I was researching and Mardel makes Trisulfa, anyone used it? it says that its safe and copper free. If my tank already had ich then why would none of my other fish have it?

Fish can fight off ich if they have a healthy immune system. The problem is that ich will still host and breed. You may not notice it on the fish, but if ich is in the tank with hosts then it is breeding. They will infest the weakest first, but any of the fish can be carrying the parasite. There are many medications out there claiming to kill ich, there are only two proven methods that actually work; Copper and hyposalinity. Do not add medication to your display. Even if you have no LR, LS, or snails and inverts of any kind. You will ruin your tank for future inverts. Please remember that ich IS an invert. Nothing that kills ich is safe with any other invert.

okay good to know. Man this sucks. What if i take the fish out, with the rest of them get sick? or will they fight it off like they did before?

They may fight for awhile, but the fact is that ich is in your system. Irradicate it before it takes another fish.
