Wife's was due to her annual assessment. Mine was out of the blue.
Even with the high gas prices and minimum wage increases (that hurt us as much as gas prices) we are better off financially than we ever have been. Since we don't excel in the financial responsibility aspect of life, we give God credit for keeping us just ahead of our bills.

Same here. I actually did some cleaning yesterday and ran across some of my husband's pay stubs from 2002. He is making around the same amount dollar wise as he was then, and now we have to pay the entire cost of our health insurance, nothing is going into a 401k, and he is out of town for work five days a week. Before, he was home every night, had a small contribution to pay towards health insurance, and was putting a nice chunk away every week in 401k that was actually matched by his employer.
How sad is that? Traveling away from home all week, making significantly less money, all things considered, plus paying twice as much for just about everything. I still can't believe we've gone that far backwards in six years.
