One of Georgia Aquarium’s beluga whales, Nico, died suddenly over the weekend, the aquarium reported Tuesday.
Nico, who is estimated to be over 25 years old, was moved in early October from the Georgia Aquarium to SeaWorld San Antonio. Georgia Aquarium still has two beluga whales.
The initial autopsy, conducted by veterinarians and other animal health specialists, did not find an exact cause of death. More detailed results will be available over the next few months.
Nico was rescued from a Mexican amusement park and arrived at the Georgia Aquarium on Oct. 17, 2005.

Keeping it alive and giving it a good life are two different things.. When we got Nico he was in pretty poor shape and was able to thrive in his last few years.. We have had him for 5 years and he lived in the cesspool in the amusment park for many more years than that.. He was around 25 years old.. They only have a life span of 25-30 years.. Considering how bad it was before we got him.. I surprised he lasted that long..

I worked for 8 years rehabilitating and releaseing marine mammals in CA. They have very sophisticated secruity systems. And marine biologist and experts in marine mammals on staff 24/7. Nothing goes un-noticed and nothing that is the truth goes to the press. Always take anything you hear from a marine park or aquarium with a grain of salt. One famous aquarium let their sea lions loose before the tank had any water in it. Bad results.
