I went to ***** this weekend to get some supplys for my aquarium. I wanted to checkout the saltwater fish section just to look. I saw a sad long tentacal anenome with a tamato clown hosting it. Then I saw a chocalte chip starfish.
This is my mind:
"Hmm....I used to have cc star.
"Oh look at the long tent. anenome!"
"there is something wrong with this tank but what....."
"hold on. A cc star + long tentacal anenome = dinner for the cc star."
"THESE ^&$% #&*&#!!!!!
I wish they would stick with freshwater fish.

i got an 8" yellow tang there, turns out was infested with ich, now everything has it and they denied it 100%, i felt bad for the tang as it was in a 10gallon tank with another 3 medium fish, no wonder it was stressed and had ich

You bought an 8" tang and you didn't notice it had ich? It's your responsibility to Quarantine(or at least dip) any new fish or coral you bring home to your own aquarium. If you do not follow such precautionary steps any problems that follow are just as much your fault as anyone elses.
Sorry for your luck but you have to look out for your own tank.

They are ok, but you have to extremeley careful. It would also be better to get your fish from there when they are acclimating them so you can get them before they put them in the tank.

I was there getting dog food one day and looked at the saltwater section. They were trying to sell a piece of live rock with a couple mushrooms and no less than 50 heads of aptasia!

if your talking about a cony anemone (which i assume you are) then thats not really saying much because they are pretty much bullet proof, they dont need a lot of light and can stand a little less than perfect water conditions

I got this flameback from *****. It was in their tank for about 2 mins before I bought it. I've had no problems with the fish.

If you don't like ***** then don't buy from *****. I personally would not buy from them. The biggest voice that you can have against them is to not support them by purchasing from them.

I agree. ***** employees are too ignorant about keeping marine life and would be throwing away precious marine life to ignorant consumers.

I wanted to start a charity kinda thing, where I + a few friends set up a few tanks each and then buy the SW live stock from ***** and other big chain pet stores who sell SW fish, treat them, get them back to health and then donate(+ a small donation to us to keep the tanks going) them to people starting out there tanks or people who had a tank crash or things like that.

Oh yes it will..... trust me... speaking from experience (or inexperience).

It happened to me when I first started out in this hobby. My first anemone was a long tentacle that turned out to be a $40 meal for a cc. I came home from work and it was just finishing the poor thing off. Needless to say, the cc was returned for credit.

i no longer shop at ***** because of how they handle saltwater fish. they need to be like petsmart and only sell freshwater fish.

They definitely don't take care of their saltwater fish like an LFS will, because it's not their livelihood like it is for a LFS, and therefore don't care. I was just there this weekend picking up a CC star for my harlequin and found a large carpet anemone flipped over dying, BTAs dying, and every other fish had ich. But every now-and-then, you can find good deals on corals.

No matter what pet store you shop at or what type of fish you purchase. You're always going to run the risk of getting a bad deal. Where I live we have a mom and pop fish store, we have 2 Walmarts, a ***** and a Pet Smart. Now I've purchased fish from all of them and I've had good experiences and bad experiences at each. It's up to the consumer to be deligent about purchasing the healthiest looking fish you can find and then QTing it no matter how healthy it looks.
Have I always purchased the healthiest looking fish? No. Sometimes I've been known to do fish rescues and some of my goldfish are rescue fish and are very healthy now. But I put alot of time and effort and money into getting them that way and I've had some failures along the way too. But I knew what I was getting myself into and I knew the risks.
If you're not willing to invest in treating sick fish, QTing them or making good decision on where to purchase as well as what to purchase then maybe fish keeping isn't your thing.
The thing I like about my local ***** is that I know the manager there. She's knownledgeable about marine fish(having a marine tank of her own)and I know her personally since I use to work for a pet store a trillion years ago and she was my assistant manager back then. So I trust her.

I agree with some of the other replies. You need to watch what you buy and be careful how you add them to your tank. Or its just as much your fault. My local ***** is one of my favorites. Ive never had any problems (ive always watched my fish before buying) I personally know all of my ***** workers and most are on here talking with all of us. Good job ***** in emmaus. I see why some dont like ***** though. I have been in some crappy ones. I guess i just lucked out. They have fair prices and mine will order anything they dont have that i want...

Actually this is very interesting.... ***** is apparently aware of their bad reputation in the salty world and is looking to turn a new leaf. They are running a pilot in a SO CAl store and working closely with the local reef club there to try and improve the saltwater situation there. I have heard that they are making big improvements....So it may be improving at all stores very soon.
