getting a bow

Hi Fishking,
Finally a question I can answer although personal preference plays a big role. I have been bowhunting for 20 years so it's safe to say I have tried most brands. I also own a Sportsmans Hunting Expo (trade show). After hunting all over the Northeast with Hoyt (my first bow), Mathews (Z Max) and many others, I have settled in nicely with a Darton Maverick. The Hoyt's i've had over the years were all very good but I wanted more arrow speed. I tried the Mathews and found it to be too small and unsteady and it also goes out of tune easily. The Darton I hunt with now is far and away the best bow I have ever used. It is also very important that you have it set up properly by an expert. The Maverick and other Darton bows have awesome speed. Give one a try...you'le love it!!

Height and size shouldnt matter. Its what fits you the best and what you are comfortable with. I would go to a dealer and try a few out to see what you like. Pearson is good but I like HOYT as well. hoyt.com is their site. Also it depends on the pull pounds your comfortable with as well. Anywhere from 45 - 70lbs. Alpine is an awsome bow as well. alpinearchery.com

I recommend a Martin Cougar. They RULE!! They're about 500 bucks and when u pull back it feels firm. Very nice bow. Highly recommend it.

Fishking,
Be careful. The people I know that tried bow hunting became addicts. It sucked them into a world of hunting like no other. Anyone can pick off deer at 200 yds with a highpower rifle, but the close range adrenaline of bow hunting was so much that they hung up their rifles. One even hunts with his 44 mag revolver during firearm season, and takes one every year with it.
Hope you have a great time!
