Getting Damsels???

Thought I'd warn the people who are getting their first fish. If you are planning on getting Damsels there are alot of different sub species of them and some of them are very aggressive. I have 3 types of Damsels in my tank right now and by far the three stripe Damsel is extremely aggressive, if you want alot more passive Damsels go with the Blue Crome guys. The Yellowtail Blues are less aggressive than the 3 stripes but by far the Blue Cromes are the most peaceful.
I can only speak for the 3 types I have now, but stear clear of the 3 stripes for sure. Everytime I add any little chunk of rock he/she has to bully everyone for at least 24hours.

Ok, so i read this post and was laughing (no offense) because i started with three stripes (small) 2 of them (which i still have today) and by far are the least aggressive fish i have besides my butterfly and gobies, they all get along, since i am a newb i tried a yellow tail (aka. blue devil damsel) and by far with my experience the most aggressive i have ever witnessed (beat the hell out of the three stripes-nipping ones tail, and smacking the gobies with there tail so bad i had to net them and bring them back to where i got them) so i think it depends on the set up but as of now my three stripes are peaceful fish actually very curious and fun to watch...........

Ok, thats strange. I looked at my fish then researched the fish. 3 stripes have an aggressive temperment, well lets just settle on the Blue Cromes being peaceful then. I've heard other say the same thing.
I just had to tap the side of my tank to get the 3 stripe to quit harrasing the other about 10min ago because I added 3 pieces of rock and he feels threatened.

see by far my blue devil is the meanest guy i have ever had. i had two and i had to lt one of them go. and the peaceful one is now the brute of the tank. my three stripes(may they rest in peace) go killed by my blue damsel. different fish act different in different environments. they are never the same. but there are a few attributes that stay the same. but it is always good to hear what the same fish do in different environments.

my male yt damsil is crazy!!! he attacks my hand everytime i put it in the tank near his "domain" i dont know what hes thinking but he is not affraid of my huge hand lol so i know hes not affraid of any of the other fishes.....
my 3 striped is ok.... him and the YT male get into it everyonce in a while but they usually reside on opposite sides of the tank.... a 100G helps keep them seperated.... the female yt is harmless and so is my all blue damsil....
my tomato clown can be pretty aggressive when i put my hand in near his 2 Rose tips he attacks too...

Maeistero - How did you get the aggresive one out? I have a Blue Devil that is driving me and my tank inhabitants crazy but I have had NO luck at all catching him - too fast and too smart.

IMO, Damsils are worthless...
I hate those guys.
I had a three stripe and a four stripe and they killed two fish.
I just got a clown and they beat him up till he couldn't swim anymore so I figured enough was enough and got rid of them before they did any more damage.
I'm not sure about blues being all that peaceful though...
A friend of mine baught 5 of them to cycle her tank and just one of them killed the other four in a week.

A COOL TRICK THAT WORKED WITH MINE. I REARRANGED THE TANK. THEY HAVE NO MORE TERRITORY TO DEFEND. but id rather take them out than rearrange it again.

IME Damsles are cheap Tank cyclers - best and Fish food!
THe Black Domino Damsel IME is a Pain in the freaking arse. THe only Damsel I'd even consider wasting my time/money with is the Pertty Yellow Tail.
Damsels are Agressive/Teritorial and mostly *Unpredictable* Marine fish in genreal IME. They truly *Embody* my long running theory that Smaller is more insecure....lol.
As for Putting up your fish Against *PitBulls*.......lmfao. I can't account for all the curs on the planet but bring your FIsh over to my yard as I'm sure my Game bred APBT"s would love a Marine snack...hehe.
