just get the maxi jet mod kit and save some money!
As tdog said you could get the mod kit. How long is the 45 gallon?

i was planning on that but after a long nite of research.... i dont like them. alot of people complaining on too much flow. im afraid to buy them n see a tornado of sand everywhere. i decided to go with the koralias becuz of the wide flow with serious gph but gentle enough not to make a huge sand storm. get what im sayin
. if i had a long n bigger tank i would hands down buy the mods but its just too much for a 45g.

They do produce alot of flow. Maybe use one and Just point it upwards

The problem with koralias is that they are all around the same price. My suggestion would be two number 2's. I would have one positioned up top and the other middle/bottom. What else do you have that adds to flow in the tank?

i have a sump with an over flow. the return is a rio 1700.
You are going to have to be the judge of whether or not you have enough flow. If need be you can add more power heads. I don't suggest the nano koralia though.

what kind of pumps are u running in your tank?
Probably not going to help you because I have a hex. I have a #2 in the middle of tank. A #1 at the surface and a nano close to the bottom. All koralia.

Learn from my mistakes. I have the same tank dimensions. I bought into the Maxie Jet upgrade and I hated it. The water was too turbulent and I had everything a mess. So I went and bought me and extra Maxie jet, and two Koralia #1.
So, in my set up, I have two #1 and two Maxie Jets 900 in the back facing eachother but slightly upwards, then the two Koralias one on each side facing the front middle of the glass. My rear power heads are on a timer that only keeps them on during day light hours and mimicks a wave like effect to ensure I do not overflow my tank during night time sleep for the fish and corals that close when the lights go out.
Depending on your rock layout and how much liverock you got, I will suggest two #2, and maybe one Maxie jet in the back so that you do not neglect flow behind the rocks.
Now remember that gunk build up on the sandbed will happen regardless of flow but to a small degree which is where your critters come in handy to help clean it out. I use two conchs to eat the deitrus as well as numerous red scarlet hermit crabs.

You could do Koralia 1's, but I have 1 K2 in my 24 gallon and its amazing. You could do like 2 Koralia 2's and thatd be all the flow you need, right about.
