Getting prepared

well its hurricane season, and it looks like we may be getting another charley. its only a tropical storm right now, but I guess its better to be prepared then not. We have storm shutters for the house, and generator for the fridge and tanks, a grill to cook on. If and when it hits, I will be here all alone with the kids as my husband has to be at work through the whole thing. I think I will get water ready tomorrow for a nice water change on my tanks and have enough ro/di on had for top offs. I bought drinking water tonight but will need to be sure and have enough pet food for a few extra days. enough rambling I guess, anyone else in fayes projected path??

Should be an interesting weekend. My parents are nearing their move, so we've decided to move their small tank (90gal) to my house (from FTL to here) tomorrow and I'll watch over it till they get setup after the move. My brother is bringing the tank and fish up. I have all the water ready to go in holding tanks, so it should be pretty quick. The tank was pretty established. I guess after we get it setup, pretty much will be non-stop making storage water.
Guessing he'll be weathering out the storm here. Hopefully it stays a TS. Just enough to get Monday off
. Have to go get 2 UPS back-ups now

Guess I should go get another one or two battery air pumps since I have 2 tanks now.

Other than that I'm lucky I have the accordian shutters, and city water (for the whole barn!).
It is cool during the actual hurricane just seeing how powerful nature can be (been here 10 years and never evacuated for any of them).

yikes, we just got home from there. But it doesn't look like its going over TS status, not near Charley status, I ran from Charley for 2 days and that was a totally devasting deadly hurricane. I rode out a few Cat 1's and TS's and they can be scary. We lose power a few times a year in STL due to tornados, storms, ice storms for anwhere between 1-7 days. No matter what it seems that we are never completely prepared. Something always changes in the mix. Battery air pumps for circulation is key in our past power loses.
Battin' down the hatch and don't drive through any high water folks!!

we road out charley. My husband was at work, so it was just me and the kids. We covered all the windows except the sliding glass door, after watching it bow in and out a couple of times, I made the kids get into my room and stay away from any windows. We lost part of our roof and several very lrg trees

Well, went and got a UPS backup and 2 deep-cycle batteries yesterday (I have 2 standard car batts laying around too to CMA(covermy
). Progress Energy is so crappy pretty sure we'll loose power somehow.
At least the NE sector of the storm is going over no man's land in the 'Glades till it getting here....

Well at least you get power straight from the source (FPL). All Progress does, is have a plant, that can't meet their demands, so they mostly contract power from FPL and charge us the difference.

Lost power like 10 times and we just had outer bands of the storm. Worse than I thought. I hope Teresa is ok!

Wow this thing is taking an unexpected turn...
School, flights and doctor's appt's all got cancelled today.

Now a whole new part of the state has to start stocking up on candles and gasoline.

I guess I put all my lawn furniture back out now.
