Getting Ready for ERNESTO!!!

Well...here we go again...see this is actually why I love Florida. The hurricanes. Yea they are kinda of scary and I do not like to see peoples homes including mine get destroyed. However they are exciting. Well that is till my tank goes under!

So this year I purchased a 105AH deep cycle battery and a 1000 watt power inverter to run my return pump. I tested it and it works well. I had the generator last year and it did not pay to use it because I was at work the whole time and gas during a hurricane is hard to find.
Does and have any ideas on other things I could do to prepare the tank for a major power loss. The battery will run the pump for about 20hours which I will then recharge the battery. I will be with out lights for a while but I figure it does ran in the tropics.

Battery was $100 (Boaters World)
Inverter 1000watt $100 (Lowe's)
Battery Charger $69.99 (Lowe's)
Inverter Cable $9.99 (Lowe's)
My tank cost so far is $4000.00 so I really think that these items are invaluable at $280.00

Thats a good plan. I will have to look at that. How does a battery charger work when you have no power?

Why dont you forget all of that and just get a small gennie like i have, i plug my whole tank in, lights, fuge, filter, everything, 46' flat screen and a fan on my little super quiet honda, it can run for 10 hrs on on 2 gallons gas.

I did that last year...the trick to that is being home to keep filling it up with gas. During a hurricane I am working all the time and can't keep filling with gas every 8-9 hours. On top of that you have to wait in line to get gas when you run out..plus worry about someone stealing a 2000 watt generator that cost $1100.00 plus cords and gas. Its toooo much trouble for me. My return will run for 20 hours or so trouble free and I can get another battery and run the light each day if I want to for a couple hours.
NINJAMINI.......I have a monster Kohler generator at work where I can charge my battery or use a friends generator. A better idea is to have 2 batteries and keep switching them out.
