Getting SHOCKED

I just got my new 2X96watt PC lighting, with METAL caseing. When feeding my anemone my arm barely grazed the case of the lighting and zizzzzzzzzzzz. I got legs that raise it up about 2-3in. (I know this lighting for this anemone is a hot topic but please no comments). What should I do, plastic caseing? get tongs and move the lights only when completly nessasary?
And by the way has anyone else had the prob?

Is the metal casing grounded?

Is the light on a Timer...?
Is the timer a grounded (three prong) unit...?
You didn't "break off" the ground prong to fit in a less expensive timer..did you..?
(I did...ONCE) :scared:
Had to buy a grounded timer AND replace the power cord...

Its grounded but it does go through 1 spliter and a timer that could be the prob, but they all have that third prog

Might pick up one of those little testers at the hardware store and check the outlet wiring. Get the one that you just plug in and it lights up LEDs to tell you if the outlet is correctly wired. If there's a problem with your socket, no ammount of correct wiring on the tank side will fix it.

Don't discount the possibility that another faulty component is grounding through the light housing. Unless you are standing barefoot on a concrete floor don't assume you are grounded. Your arm may be completing the circuit from the water to the hood.

And of course it could just as easily be the other way around...
The lights are grounding through your arm to the water to the other components or grounding probe...:thinking:
An ammeter with a diode will tell you which way the current is flowing..

Wait wait wait, im supose to remove my eletrical stuff 1 by 1 and "test" it every time, its 192watt flowin through me every time, it hurts pretty bad. And im sure that im making a complete circut useing the water. How much are those outlet testers?

I just realized that im useing my dads old heater and that doesnt have a third prong, and does anyone have an ammeter with a diode i can borrow, lol

Well, if we can talk you into it that would be pretty entertaining...

But you really should get an ammeter/voltmeter to do your "testing"
