Get some LR and or Live sand to start cycling your tank. What kind of filter do you have? I wouldn't even put the crushed coral in the tank take it back and get live sand instead. I learned after it was too late that live sand is much better.

i personally usse argonite, the rock is right, you must cycle your tank for about a month, with a damsel in it preferably, and if you plan to keep corals or live rock you will need a strong light.

I'm staying with crushed coral so no sand. The people at the fish store said sand is a little harder to clean. I also have Whisper filter because well i have a 10 gallon tank. so thats it.

I would recommend that you definitaley not cycle with a fish it is cruel and I did it and now feel bad for the little guy. Live Rock does not require any special lighting just the right water conditions. If you only have a ten gallon I would go with the sand there will be little to no maintenance because all the bacteria needed to decompose preexist in the live sand but that is up to you.

You said that your tank already had water in it you need to do that first and then add the rest of the stuff. <img src="graemlins//yell.gif" border="0" alt="[yell]" />

2 the rock: i am currently cycling my 10 gallon with live sand and a yellow tail damsel,i have a skilter 250,and everything is fine however i have heard of cases that cycling with fish is cruel,so i guess he should do what he thinks best.

I'm sorry but I read that your local fish store said that crushed coral is better than sand because sand is harder to clean. I think you need to stop listening to their advise or atleast check several sources before committing to anything they tell you. Live sand cleans itself while crushed coral doesn't.
