Getting worried about new blenny

Hi.
I got a new lawnmower blenny (Wilfred) on Wednesday. He is VERY shy as every time I walk in the room, he darts to his hiding spot. I am hopeful he will overcome this behavior. My worry is that I have not seen him eat. Should I assume that he is eating while I'm not in the room (while he is out and about in the tank), or should I take some sort of action to try and get him to eat?

Hi Beth, what are you feeding him?

Try turning out all the lights in the room, but leaving the aquarium light on. This will keep the Blenny from seeing you and you should be able to monitor it.

Formula 2 Algae flakes with 2% garlic. I also have some frozen algae stuff I can try, frozen prime reef, and some type of Formula One. The problem is he is so concerned with hiding himself at feeding time, he won't dare come out to grab a bite.

tht thechnique should work all lights off and tank lights on...
i saw this LMB at the lfs today like yours and it was about 4-5 inches long and an 1-1.5 inches thick as a belly!!! :cheer: it was amazing

My lmb is about 4" and he acted the same way when I first put him in my tank but now he is getting used to people walking past the tank or getting a closer look at him. I didn't see him eat for the first couple of weeks but then from across the room I saw him picking at the rocks and glass and now you can always see the tell tale lip prints all over the glass.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago and it was the same. if I would put mysis in, and take three steps back, he would come out and grab them. now i can stand right at the tank. try some mysis or gut loaded brine.

I will try that...though I thought they were algae eaters. Maybe he would like the frozen prime reef that my clowns go ga-ga over!

I've posted a thread called "Blenny starving", like, a few weeks ago.
Not much help, but someone suggested to bring him back to the lfs.
I didn't do so, but then I added 50lb of live rock in, he is now happy happy. He cleans my live rock really good. Thanks to the on time arrival of the lr.
My Blenny doesn't eat anything but algea that grow naturally from the rock. He is a 110% vegie eater!

Is yours a lawnmower blenny too?
I do have quite a bit of live rock in there already and it could be that he is eating when I'm not in there. He is just so incredibly shy it is hard to tell. As soon as I walk in the room (lights on or off it seems), he darts into a hole and stays there. Hmph.
