My LFS puts in 5 gal cont. for me - so I'd tote home 6 jugs or you could buy some and take it to them to fill.

5 gal totes here too. Once you buy them you just take them in for a refill. They have them at walmart or your lfs.

I use 5 gallon kerosene cans from Home Depot, because they're blue. The only drawback is that because they're opaque, I usually can't see the water until it start spurting out onto the floor and me.
I like them though because they're a good weight to carry, but not so small that I'm using 3 million of them to do a water change.

Walmart has the culligan water stations and they sell 5 gallon jugs with scre.w caps there.

...or you could just get frustrated with multiple trips to the store with the cashiers wondering why you drink so much water and just buy an RODI unit
Now I'll have to buy containers to hold that water though....any good suggestions on garbage cans? Are they all safe?

I bought a cheapo 32 gallon plastic trash can w/lid at Lowes for around $12... works well for me.

Rubbermaid Brute cans are the way to go. They come in different sizes and are very strong, so they can easily handle the strain of being filled with water. I use a 40 gallon one to make my RODI water.

With help...haha.
Actually, if you set things up in advance, you only need hose and a pump. I'm working out a great water storage/mixing station solution in my basement, directly below the fish tanks in a way that I can use a hose going from my DT plumbing to drain water down into the basement drain, then flip a switch and pump clean water back up from my mixing station with a sump-return pump (likely a genx spare I've got). It's going to take some work since the basement isn't finished, and I don't have an actual water faucet down there, but with some PVC and time, I can split off the main that runs along the ceiling. This is going to be my summer project....heh.

ya really wanna know?
we bought 55gl 1 gallon jugs for the first fill up...yep. most do 5gl jugs but I can't lift that. Since the begining I filled up 1 gallon jugs, kept a bunch on hand and filled up each week.
I have a ro unit, so I just ran that for three days to fill up my 75gl tank. emptied 2-3 gallons into the tank at a time.

LOL! I scoop out 5 gallons at a time! My RO unit is in my basement. I have a smaller, 15 gallon tote that I use to mix my water. I siphon 5 gallons at a time into a bucket, carry it upstairs and dump that into the 15 gallon tote. I do 10 gallon changes so I do that twice then add my salt, a heater and a powerhead and let it sit for 24 hours or so.

Question are you old, young (like 10-) a girl or handicapped?
If not then you should start working out if you can't lift a 5gallon jug. its only about 45 pounds

Hey I covered everything though that would make me feel bad.
Old-obviously dont need to explain
Young- muscles havent developed yet
girl- shouldn't expect women to lift stuff (as a polite gentleman I would lift it for a girl as should all fellow men)
handicapped- once again obvious
