GFI and probe question. Safety concerns.

Hi everyone,
I had GFI (ground fault interrupters?) outlets installed by an electrician for my tank. I have the power strips plugged into them and when I hit the test button on the GFI outlet, everything in the tank shuts off, so they're working correctly, right?
That was question #1. Question 2# is, do I need a grounding probe to "tell" the GFI's that theres voltage in the tank or are the probes mainly for the fish's safety?
I'm more concerned for "our" safety, not that I want any harm to come to my fish, but I dont want a fire or electrocution either.
Kids will be kids and stick their hands in the water..it worries me and I want to do everything I can to protect them and my home should a heater break or a cord become worn.
ANY recommendations are really appreciated!

Hey, are you the same guy who asked this same question on Aqualink, if so th e same answer, I not lying to ya.

The replys have been lost. If they come back good, but just in case I'll sum all them up for you. No to the ground rod except for one yes for the fishes possibility of getting lateral line disease. Just make sure that you test the GFI monthly like the manufacturer recommends to make sure it is still working. If not, replace it. They don't last forever. I've seen many fail. Good ones will not let the power through any more where as the bad ones will and you are left with no protection.
