Ghost feeding a newly set up QT will still produce a cycle if theres no bactirea in it, best to place PVC fittings and a sponge filter in your display ( if its established ) so that the fittings and filter can get some established bacteria on them. Keep them in a bout a week and then place the fittings and filter in the QT and then ghost feed QT slightly less than what you think you will be feeding the new fish in the QT untill you get the fish but always keep testing the QT befor you get the fish so you know the bacteria in the QT is working.

well said.
I set a sponge in the sump of my dt for when i have to set up my QT (I run a QT that is only operational when needed) so to establish bacteria I leave a sponge in my DT sump for when I need to run My qt. once I use a sponge in my qt I ditch it and get another so it does not get overloaded with organic waste and cannot transferany problems that may have occurred during the last qt session. ghost feeding a dead tank like a qt can lead to problems, (the set up of the QT totally depends on how. ghost feeding a bare tank will only put a lot of organic waste on the bottom of the tank...
how is your QT set up. (equipment, sand, rock, bare, HOB filter, sump, etc...)without more info on your QT honestly, its like shooting BB's in the dark at a invisible nickels, occasionally one may hit true but what are the chances?

The tank has been up for about 8weeks, it had a cycle originally, then i put fish in it. it had another cycle. it is now finished with the second cycle. the fish are in the DT. it has been empty for about 2weeks now. i don't want it to sit for 3 more weeks then put fish in it and it cycle again. is it done or do i need to ghost feed it. if so how often. it is a 10 g. with fake coral.

it has a heater and a hang on the back filter with some white mesh and a blue carbon pad behind it. nothing fancy. no sump, no sand, no fish

Ok by what I gather the tank has been up for a little while and has established bacteria in/on the form of replaceable media cartrige in the HOB filter. ghost feeding the tank minute amounts once a week (or every three to four days) will maintain the bacteria, as dogstar advised feed about or less than you would feed the fish you intend to QT. that will build the bacteria to the level needed to manage the waste of the new fish without creating the cycle imbalance often associated with introducing new fish.

Ok, thanks.
You don't have lr in a qt b/c if you have to treat for any thing, or do hypo you will kill your lr.

My DT is new 4 months, so when i am done adding to it i will decide what to do with it, it is a pain to have two tanks to worry about
I don't know how some of you do it with 3 and 4 tanks
