Giant Hermit Crab

I picked up 5 hermit crabs yesterday. I had read about blues, scarlets and a few others. They didn't have any blues and I did not want to get all scarlets, so I picked up one with orange legs that I thought was a "halloween hermit." I am now almost certain that he is a very small giant hermit. He's about the size of a nickel at this point. I am pretty sure he'll eventually slay the others, right? I think I could take him back, but I am not going to. What I'd like to do is set up a tank for him to live in. Until I can get that running, I am going to purchase a breeder trap (like the ones used for livebearers in freshwater) and put him in that. Will he be okay in that for the two weeks it takes to get a tank up and running for him?? I think he should be, but I wanted to check and make sure.
Also, has anyone ever kept the giant hermits? Anything else I should know about them, other than they get quite large?

My son had a large hermit, about 3 inches. It ate everything snails and crabs.
We ended up giving it to our neighbor who has a 150 with a clown trigger, a powder blue tang and a 2 foot eel. It is holding his own, they are massivly tough. I am not sure if it would get enough food in a trap, could you take it back to the lfs and have them hold it? Or maybe put a tank divider in the tank untill then.

Well I do feed the crabs. There is liverock in the tank that they eat off of, but I supplement that with sinking pellets. If I fed him, would he be okay? I don't think the LFS will hold him for me.
