GIGANTIC snail

i thought i was grabbing a shell off the beach. when i got it home the foot was out! I have NO clue what to do with it...

Those are a type of conch I believe. Down in SC they are ielegal to remove from beaches I think.

Maybe not, see if some one on her can identify it. You may be able to keep in the tank, after you quarantine it of course. You didnt mean to take him. :jumping:

nope, i grabbed a bucket full of shells. we just had a storm friday and there were tons on the beach. i also have another shell i need id'ed on a different forum since some of the "shells" i picked up have sprouted feet...

yep it's a conch. i don't think it is illigal to remove from beach. although we usually throw them back in the water when we find them.

I sound like a mother hen but always be careful with Conchs. very very rare for them to strike but can be deadly with particular species

so, should i offer it to someone with a huge tank, or with an aggressive tank? i guess it would probably do well for people with a big aggressive tank who can't keep a clean crew?

oh great...
i'm making the trip back to the beach tomorrow after reading this. i've been slowly acclimating it to the QT but i am in no way going to keep something that may be poisonous.

i thought cone snails were the deadly ones :notsure:

woot, did a search on snails on CT shores, and it seems it is part of the busycon species. seems its a large whelk though :(
