i bought this anemone a couple of weeks ago, and i noticed that it started making more anemones. i looked it up in a book and i came upon the name glass anemone. the book decribed it as the devil's plague, they said that they end up attacking all corals and end up killing them. does anyone know if its a glass anemone? or is it something else? should i take it out?

Thanks

Inject Joe's juice, boiling water, or lemon juice into it. Do not try to pull it, that will make it spread.

out of curiosity How much did you have to pay I would take it bad to the LFS may not get your money back but it would let them know that you look up what you have and may not try to pass it on to others as a coral for the tank.

I paid $15 for it. im never going to back to that pet store again.
when i asked the guy, to tell me what kind of anemoe it was, he was not able to answer my question. you would expect them to know what they're selling

not always it really depends on how well educated on saltwater he is or if he is just selling it to make money. some places instead of ordering 20 damsel 15 yellow tang and 10 clowns. they order 100 assorted SW critters and what they get they get. some just dont have a cluse what they are so when their LR tank starts to sprout anemones they see a chance to pull that piece of rock and sell for more without knowing what it is. The only thing I do know is that if a LFS sold you apistia as a good coral they were out to rip you off or have absolutely NO clue what they have to sell and dont care.
aleast you didnt pay a lot of monet for it.

The only time it's ok to buy from a guy who doesn't know what he's selling is when you know what you're buying.

its so hard to find a trust worthy LFS. Mine tried selling my LR with aptasia all over it telling me it was "thriving with life".
lol, ya kill it for sure

Hey, he wasn't lying or anything. How could you pass up "tank bred" anemones!?

Guys that don't know what they have are my favorite. Once I bought a Ranfordi Butterfly out of an lfs's assorted
butterfly tank for $9.99!!!

BTW, I think we've all at one time or another bought something when we weren't sure what it was. I bought Pilot Fish once that they said were damsels. As Jessica Simpson says "I don't know what that is, but I want it".

Ya when I first started I bought a sand sifting starfish not knowing much about it. returned it for "no" refund when I realized i didn't have an established enough sand bed for it. Plus I didn't want it killing all my critters in my sand bed. We should come up with an exam for LFS's to pass before ever selling a fish to a customer

We had a tankful of them. We read and heard that copperband butterfly fish love to eat them. We bought one and he ate all of them. Not one left in the tank. They have been known to eat some corals as well, but we have not had a problem with him eating our corals. He did eat our flame scallop, but I only paid $4 for the scallop. I would much rather get rid of the glass anemones! Good luck!
