Glass Polish

I picked up a used tank for next to nothing, but the glass is hazy due to its use as a terrarium. I'm planning on turning it into a reef tank this week. Are glass polishing compounds safe to use on reef tanks? Obviously I'd give it a thorough rinse after I'm done. Just wondering if anyone's had any bad luck with these or if there's an aquarium-specific polishing compound out there.

I got a freebee 55g and 30g that had been sitting in a Floridian backyard for several years filling up w/ rain water and all kinds of what ever would grow in it. Totally nasty. Who knows what was living in it. Anyways, I was able to clean it up really well using white vinegar, a scrubby sponge for teflon cookware, and elbow grease. FYI: Vinegar won't leave a toxic residue that some other cleaners could.
