Glass thickness

I'm throwing around the idea of selling off the stand I made for the 55g and building s custom glass rimless tank. If I'm going to have a tank at all, I want it to be the way that I want it to look.

36"x20"x21". 65 gallons.

Would 3/8" (6/16) work or would it have to be closer to 1/2" (8/16) ? Could I get a thinner glass?

20" tall? The height is what determines the glass needed.

At 20" tall 3/8 will do. Once you get to 24" you'll need 1/2". I would not go thinner than 3/8 @ 20".

Tempered?

I'm not sure.

I was thinking of buying three panes of that low iron glass. The back and bottom we're going to be regular glass. I was considering a bean animal overflow to cut down on the noise.

You think the bottom needs to be tempered?

I'm not any type of glass expert so I hope you go for another opinion.

My understanding is that tempered glass is harder and won't bow as much for a rimless tank.

As good as it sounds, there are rimless tanks for sale online that I can customize that would cost just about the same amount of money as if I did it myself.
