It's sort of a trade off.
Normally - having glass tops on will reduce evaporation.
It may hinder gas exchange as well - although I do not have any proof of this - just speculation.
Glass lids WILL hold in heat - so if you're battling high temperatures, having the galss tops on will not help you there.
Obviously - it keeps saltspray off any lighting fixtures - which is good - but requires you to clean the glass often.
This may be a pain depending on your set up.
Also - if you have "jumpers", the glass lids tend to keep some of these guys from leaping to their deaths.
Open top - normally is better to go for lighting.
You get the full intensity ( as much as you have ) from the lights entering the tank.
If mounted high enough - you won't get much salt spray on them.
If mounted low - you run the risk of water splashing on a hot lamp - and this can cause them to burst ( so I've read and heard ).
Salt spray on a lamp must be a p.i.t.a. to clean all the time.
Open top - less heat but more evaporation.
It's a trade off for sure.
I run my 75 tank open top with lighting high enough to eliminate any saltcreep/spray.
My 30 ~ I run a glass top to set the PC fixture on - it fits the tank better this way
