I'm completely new at this so excuse the somewhat unusual question........
Bought a brand-new setup yesterday and got everything going etc. Tonight I noticed that there is a big circular scratch at the front of the tank like someone scrubbed it. Really don't think it was me - must convince the shop tomorrow. What are the chances of me having inadvertently done this while giving it a clean? Only used a soft sponge to wipe it. Is there anything I can buy to get rid of it. Some parts of it seem a little deep.

Try taking it back--maybe damaged in shipping??? It is poosible to scratch it during cleaning but only if you get crushed coral or something on your sponge, and even then it probably wouldn't be deep. Good luck cause that really sucks on a brand new tank. I don't know of anything that would cover it up.

Thanks for the response. I had that planned and was looking for someone to remove the shred of doubt from my mind that it wasn't me.
In the true spirit of Japanese service, the store owner came to my apartment, drained the tank, took out the sand and live rocks and completely installed the new tank.
I tried to help but he wouldn't let me lift a finger. I took the opportunity to pick his brains about the ins and outs of keeping salt water fish. He happily obliged and apologized profusely for not having been more observant. It turns out that a sticker on the tank had proved a little tricky to remove.
A thumbs up for Japanese customer service.
