I would not put a mandarin in a 55 without a refugium. Mandarins have specific dietary needs that consists of pods and without them they can suffer from starvation. They can be trained to eat some frozen, but they still need pods in their diet. A refugium allows for a place for the pods to populate, and will need to be reseeded from time to time. Mandarins have voracious appetites and maintaining a good pod population will prevent them from starving in the home aquarium.

Any of those should work with a mandarin, BUT really research the Blue Spot before you decide to get one, specifically Blue Spot Jawfish disease.

My diamond goby killed my mandarin. I'm not so sure sandsifters and mandarins get along. I think
they both like pods and battle for food. I'm no expert and I'm going on personal experience, all I really know is that mine killed the mandarin.

two out of the three I've owned developed the disease months and months after I owned them, seemingly for no reason. They were healthy, eating, etc and then one day the fin rot started near the tail.
