I just lost my second diamond back goby since the tank was set up. The first jumped out, the second managed to find a little hole under one of the filters and jumped.
My question to this forum is the following, What other species will sift sand like a goby. I do not have a DSB and find that the coral gets very dirty looking, lots of algae. I would prefer another fish, however am open to suggestions.

I have had two of mine jump out and die also. I call them suicide fish. I am going to try again but I am going to put some kind of top on my tank.
I have heard some say that Tiger Cucumbers are excellent at cleaning sand.

I've used a sand-sifting star for a while now, and it has done a great job at keeping the top layer of sand stirred up. Prior to getting it, I had a bad problem with green algae on top of my sand, but now it looks great. I should mention that I also have about 20 nassarius snails which also burrow in the sand and wait for food. They also probably help, but not as much as the starfish.

i agree with the sifting star. i used little pieces of astroturf to fill in any areas that may be used by jumpers and that solved the problem. they use that idea to keep octopus in their tanks and it works well with gobies
