Well the type of cycles you are describing are diffrent then the "cycling" of a tank...yes waste is constantly broken down and removed from the tank...but that is not the same as a CYCLE, where the bacteria to take care of theres wastes is built up in your tank.
I'm glad the you have a life time to enjoy your hobby....to bad your fish won't be able to say the same.

As a matter of fact this is not a fictional story. I admit the anenome was a far strech. I should'nt have bought it so soon. The clown was not a bad move. So far it is doing good in the tank. Dont get me wrong the anenome is doing well also. At the original posting of this topic I was asking about my cycle. If it was time to get a fish. The tank at that time was already cycled. Yesterday I feed the fish. Today I checked the ammonia to see if it spiked at all. It was at 0.1 mg/l. This was a level were it could stress a fish. So I went down to my lfs and bought some freeze dried bacteria. I checked it about four hours after that and the ammonia was fine.

ALSO AS FAR AS GOLFISH GOES IM NOT GOING TO TAKE ADVISE FROM SOMEONE THAT SAYS THAT THEY WORK IN A "COKE LAB" AND WHO'S HOBBY IS DRINKING BEER. I THINK THAT YOU NEED TO GET A NEW LINE OF WORK CAUSE THE COKE IS MAKING YOU A LITTLE PARANOID. THAT WAS A PRETTY FAR FETCHED TALE YOU SAYING THAT I MADE UP THIS STORY. IVE READ A FEW OF YOUR POSTINGS AND THERE IS NOTHING POSITIVE TO THEM. KEEP YOUR VULGERNESS TO YOUR SELF!

The anemone is going to die. Wasted your money - wasted the anemone's life. But don't worry, as long as you have plenty of money, there are plenty more anemones where that one came from. :(
How can you be asking about how to cycle a tank one day and the next day adding an anemone to the tank? Do you have any clue as to how sensitive these animals are? What is required to keep them alive in the home aquarium? Do you even care? Take the anemone back until your tank matures. That
would be the right thing to do. Are you up to it?

Golfish~
All things to the side I would like to ask you what happended when you set-up your tank. How you set it up? What kind of fish did you put in it, and when? What was the effects. You say that you first set-up a tank 18 years ago. What were you're mistakes? In fact I want to ask everbody that reads this the same question. I'm going to start a new post. I'll self entitle it " just got tanked" fitting isnt it. Maybe this can give anybody that reads it some advise.

For lighting I am ok. I have the deluxe JBJ lighting. The kind that can just sit on top of the tank and has its own cooling system. From what Ive been told they are awsome lights. Also even if the lights can support the anenome Im going to take him back. I rushed into this creature not knowing anything about it. At least with the clown I asked first. I got told that the clown would be fine and I read that they are hardy. Thank you for making me see my mistake before it is too late.

Tanked~
Glad to hear you're returning the Anemone, I think that's a good decision. Odds are that even if your tank isn't cycled the clown will live.
Once again,
god luck

My first mistake when I set up my tank was buying a fish from *****. My tank was overwhelmed with Ich within a week. Don't buy from *****.

I think that everyone is making this way too complicated. I think it would help more if he heard how people actuall cycled their tanks. What worked for them. Here is how I did mine:
Day one: filled tank with saltwater, and added substrate. Hooked up my power filter with no charcoal or filter- just for flow. Put in power head - 290 gph.
Waited for water to clear overnight.
Day 2: Made sure temp was OK and salinity OK. Added uncured live rock. I turned lights off for two weeks and let the tank sit as is, doing no water changes. Added water only for evaporation.
Day 14: Tested for salinity, nitrates, nitrites and ammonia. Ammonia was ok, nitrites were ok, nitrates a little high. I knew I was at the end of a cycle.
Day 16: added two domino damsels and two yellow tailed damsels.
Day 21: Tested Ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites. Eveything OK.
Kept everything as is for another month before ever adding new creatures. Started paying attention to all other testing: Ph, PO3, calcium, etc.
Hope this helps!

Thank you ssnake for your reply. This is the kind of thing that I was looking for. I hope overtime that more people will post how they setup there tanks. It sounds like we set up are tanks the same way almost. The only differnce is that I added the clown, and had the tank cycled a liitle sooner. I wish that I was able to see my amonias spike for the first time. I had no test kit so I didnt get to see it go through that stage. Other than that I saw the nitrite and nitrate spike.
