I have a 30 gallon marine tank and have purchased a 80 gallon tank with a sump.
Question is how would i go about transfering this over.
I was think of puting 50 gallons of water with proper sg,temperature and aeration with a new bed of crush coral and leave this for a week and then transfer the 30 gallon tank over with 30 ibs of live rock and of course I would climatize the livestock with the drip method after I fill the new tank with the 30 gallons from my first tank. also i was think of adding new live rock a few pounds each week until I reach the proper amount of maybe 100 ibs.
Any thoughts a methods would be appreicated ..

I just went from a 46 to a 90 with 30 gallon sump. It took me a least a month to get ready. Everything went find and nothing died on me but it's always risky. Get the large tank going before playing with the sump.
1. prep all rock and sand (trash cans, flowing water, water changes, scrubbing, testing, etc)
2. For a month I slowly added all the sand for my 90 to my 46 gallon (you can do the rock too)
3. For a month I saved all my water changes to build up my supply of water
4. Feed the fish. Then take out the fish, coral, and inverts. Seperate buckets. Placed small cheap powerheads and heaters in the buckets. Put a few rocks and some sand in each.
5. Moved the rock from the 46 to the 90 and added the extra rock.
6. Emptied the water in the 46 to the 90.
7. Put the saved water into the 90.
8. (this is where I screwed up) Put the heaters in ASAP. It takes a long time to get the temp up.
9. Add sand
10. Add any extra water needed. I think I added 15 g of new RO water.
11. Let sit over night.
12. Once the temp is right, the tests are good, sand has settled, drip acc. the fish
13. Put the fish, coral, inverts in.
14. Let them acc. for about 8-12 hours, no lights and pumps.
15. Turn on the pumps and go to sleep.
16. Next day turn on the lights.
After that, then you can start playing with the sump. I waited at least 2 week until I started the sump. Yes, the filtration isn't great for those 2 weeks but I won't kill anything. Save some of the water changes to fill the sump.
