Going Insane!!!

What is this algae and what do I have to do to ge rid of it? I am doing 20% water changes every week or 5 days. Am stiring it up and trying to suck it out. Have added a powerhead to the back of tank to get rid of dead spot. I have a 120g with 35g sump/fug, there is no algae like this or hair algae in fug at all. I did over feed for a week or so trying to get my clowns to eat, but now feed every other day once a day for last 2 weeks. I have 40 snail, astrea, turbo, red foot turbo, trochus, nass, and cerith, 25+ hermits, fighting conch. I try to wipe or blow it off the rocks and corals but comes back in a day. I use RO/DI water from my own unit, Kent salt just swithced last week. What else can I do? I am so frustrated . The tank is 7weeks old. pH 8.3 Nitrites 0, nitrates 5, ammonia 0, calciumm 470, phos 0. PLEASE HELP :help: Will it go away if I keep with water changes and ride it out? What is this stuff? Hair algae problem that started at same time is almost gone. I feel like a bad parent

Also: S.G. 1.025 and I have 4 emerald crabs and 2 cleaner shrimp. Pump is a Dart pumping 2400gphr. Temp 80.5. Have cut the metal halides back by 2hrs. Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

oh wow buzz!!! this is easy!!! you have the same enemies as i had, exact same algae!!! phosban!!!!! quickly!!!! light to 9hrs on. give phosban 3 weeks to work. my tdank looked exactly like that and look at mine now. thread on down "gettin better everydya"

I just got it when I started my tank. I have probably put maybe 300g through it. It is a 100gpd unit. Should I get a new membrane?

also use your siphon tube during water changes to suck out the algae!!! taht will help along w/ the phosban!!!!

Who Dey, even though you are a Bengals fan I will take your advice since I saw your thread and your tank looks SWEET!. Ok phosban but why and how do you use it? I have no phos in my tank though. What kinda algae is it anyway? Thank you for the help.

i will always pray for the who dey's but aside from that.... i don't know what kind of algae it is but it's exactly what i've had and it haunted me for 3 weeks. trust me on this one!!! i would suggest running a hang on the back with a media basket and add the recommentded dosage into a media bag. i have been so pissed about this outbreak and phosban is the shi$!!!! let me know your porogress!!!!!! no more stringy brown bull shi#*

BTW my problem started from using tap. so maybe your membrane needs changing

Cool I have an old penguin biowheel filter from my old 55 i can use. Did you use it for 3 weeks then, or one dose took 3 weeks to get rid of that sheeot! It sucks and is starting to smother my polyps and irritating my new purple colt. So aggravating this crap algae. Thank you again.

Is there any way to check your membrane to see if that is the problem? BTW I love to sit at work and get paid to work out my reef issues and to study SWF.com. LOL

your polyps should be fine! mine were covered as well. unlike the Kent Phos sponge. phosban is beneficial for 30 days, and is recommended for continued use. i just put a new batch in and my tank has never been cleaner!!!! change media bag every 30 days!! i'm hammered and gotta pass out!!! good luck!! let me know how it goes :jumping:
