i'm scheduled to have delivered in the morning the 100+ reef package of inverts from swf - (scarlet + blue leg hermits, turbo + nassarius snails, brittle stars, coral banded + peppermint shrimp, feather dusters, etc), but i don't know how to feed them. i realize algae feeds some, but is there a overall product, or several that i need? also any heads up on supplements would be greatly appreciated THANKS:happy:

The snails will feed off the algae in the tank but if you don't have enough algae then they will die. You can put algae strips in the tank to help them live. Peppermint shrimp will eat flake food or any fish food you put in the tank.

The snails will eat the algae; hermits will eat algae and any leftovers they find; brittles I think pick up leftovers, maybe some algae(not sure about that); CBS and peppermints will eat just about anything that goes into the tank--flake,mysis,whatever--all the shrimp we have/had are pigs;dusters are simple filter feeders, some people dose DTs phytoplankton, we only use it occasionally for our Hawaiian Duster but does fine for weeks without it. Many people feel that adding phyto contributes to unwanted algae growth, which is why we only dose a little occasionally. Personally, I wouldnt add any supplements unless absolutely neccessary. As long as you provide good water quality(proper pH, decent Cal levels, etc.), all those critters should be fine. You'll find that snails and hermits will die off occasionally due to lack of food, hermit warfare and other factors. We replace our stock every so often, depending on how many we have. Havent had to do it lately, we seem to have achieved a good balance, but thats not to say we wont have to. They're both cheap enough to not worry too much about it. HTH:D
