From what I understand you can pull over anywhere on the island and snorkel in the ocean... the islands are surrounded by reefs

i just went there to spend the new years me and the gf...
anyways it was a great time
there are some cool snorkling spots such as black rock out in Kaanapoli in front of the Sheraton that u just park at the local shops there and walk to the beach set ur towels down and snorkel lots of very cool fish there
then at mile marker 14 i believe off the fwy as ur going towards the Kaanapoli area i forget what its called but u pull of the road go snorkeling there and early in the morning sea turltle will be there
.... a good snorkeling adventure to take would be the day snorkel to Molakae island across from Wailea.... short trip and u see tons of fish and such there
deffinately a fun island to see
where u stayin at?

I've never been snorkling, my mom is just starting to make the plans for it. Im suppose to be staying at Kamaole Nalu Resort which looks to be near Maalaea Bay.
where is the maui ocean center? is that an aquarium?

yeah the maui ocean center is very cool!
best aquarium ive been too
its about 20 minutes from the airport its on the main road going to the west side of the island...
as long as u have a rental car u can pretty much get too all the towns within an hour if u wanna do the road to hana thats a few hour drive cuz its threough all the mountains and stuff but the main touristy stuff is all within an hour of each other

Cool, thanks alot. Hey Murph, where are all the good FREE snorkiling spots around the island?
Whats the policy on taking livestock?
My bro isnt really that into the marine stuff, well not as much as me, and he went snorkiling in the bahamas and he told me that I would want to take everything home. He saw a foot long blue tang.

when are you going to maui. I am leaving for there on march 5th.
sorry to hijack your thread, but it will benefit both of us
Any good snorkking spots where you can actually see corals?
I have been several times and only have seen a few
are there any areas where you can see SPS, LPS, or leathers in abundance

I believe off the main road on the west coast..if you follow north past the town there is
a neat cove..a short walk through what appears to be somewhat of a tropical jungle to a stone beach..cool place to snorkle.. not for the inexperienced..last time we were there way over 50 feet vis..all kinds of fish , corals etc..
