sea apples are cool, but having one in the tank, you run the risk of pollutign everythign if the littel guy gets stressed! i would stay away from them until you have researched them enough. personally i thik these guys are best left in the wild, but then i feel that way about a lot of things in this hobby!:D ;) :D
good luck

Yes, they do. If they get stressed that can kill the entire tank with their toxins. It's very potent.

I've done a fair amount of research on these guys... I have friends who have them and are happy BUT....
You have to run carbon/chemi-pure... its the only way to have a safety net for toxins unless you can just sit there and watch them. They can puke their guts out and yes their eggs/spawn are extremely toxic.
If you do get one and he is constantly on the move... its actually not a good sign. A happy sea apple is one that sits in the same spot for months. My buddy has one that has been in the same spot for 7 months and is happy as.... well not a clam I guess.
It's a risk I'm not willing to take. Good luck.

Boy, am I glad I mentioned the sea apple! I had know idea they were that bad. Point proven I need to do more research on things before I put anything in the tank! I'm NOT going to get a sea apple. Not worth the risk. Here's what I did get though. I saw a starving, skin and bones mandarin gobie. I mean, I don't know how this guy is still alive. I got a male and female Mandarin a couple of weeks ago, and I've been in this panic wondering if there is enough food for them. My lfs guy says there's plenty of food in my tank, and not to worry. So, I decided to buy this starving mandarin as sort of an experiment. I figured if he made the stress of the change, and he get's fat, then I know there is enough food in my tank. Well, I paniced after I bought him, that it was a dumb thing to do, but anyway, he's in the tank. He's happy and hunting. The male mandarin chases him when he see's him, but the female LOVES him. She hates the other male. Go figure. Anyway, he's made it through the first night, and I'll let you know how he goes. I'll try to figure that camera out and get a pic.

Yeah, I thought it was a good idea to see if I had enough food if I could get him fat and happy, now I have to worry about whether or not I have enough for three! I did a little research AFTER I bought him. I do have a 220G tank, and another 30 gal sump/refugium, and a ton of live rock, so I think it can handle 3 mandarins, if he makes it. I will tell you though that he is cruising and pecking at the rocks, just like my other 2. It doesn't look like he's not eating what he finds. But, he is really nothing but skin and bones. I tried to get a good picture yesterday, but my digital didn't do too good a job. I'll keep trying, and I'll keep you posted. I guess the lfs didn't have enough in his sell tanks to keep him alive, and if he put him in his display tanks, he'd never get him out. Oh well. Live and learn, but I hope he makes it. PS. My female just flirts like crazy with him.

you might try dumping him in your fuge for awhile, theres more than enough for him to eat in there, it would be worth a shot!
good luck

Yeah, we thought of that after I had him in the tank. It's too late now, I doubt I could catch him. That would have been buffet heaven!
