you know... with the amount of people coming here saying one thing, then getting upset when people tell them it may not work, or asking questions about something to get more information, i feel like starting to give answers to them that they want to hear. yes, put that school of tangs in a 10 gallon tank without qt'ing it!! yes, put that mandarin in an aggressive tank with no live rock! yes, put in 50 fish into your 30 gallon tank!! put in every species of clown, tang, angel, and basslet in, they won't fight!!
only reason not to do this is the fish suffer...but it would be nice to get the poster's hopes up then have them lose a ton of money when the tank crashes.
people think they've gotten flamed before? maybe that's what they want... maybe it should be
from now on?
just getting frustrated recently /vent off

Why are you here? To give people the unarguable truth about this hobby adn the means to decline the abuse of the natural reef or to give people crap about their bad choices (ALL OF WHICH YOU AHVE ADE AT SOME POINT OR ANOTHER) and hope they fail? How can you feel that way?! You must have hope, faith, integrity, and love to know that we are just humans. Dont wish any one bad things. BAD KARMA.

I don't think he meant it that way. There have been some of negativity in some recent post. Im sure he was referring to one of mine as well I don't think he is wanting anyone to fail

I understand renogaw's frustration. I sometimes see posts that people ask whether to put a tang in a 30G, 10 fish in a 20G tank, a Mandarinfish in a new tank because they look cool, multiple or different species clowns in a tank (now offense to you NYButterfly), etc ... When I see them, I simply read the post, bite my tongue and not give advice. Most times I just shake my head in dismay.

I"ll be another one to stick up for Renogaw here as well. He gives great advice and I've seen many times when people get upset about the answers that he and other very knowledgeable people here give and then go and do the exact opposite of that advice.

I'ts a common thing..some people opt for the advice that tells them what they WANT to hear...it is unfortunate for the little fishies. No patience, No research, No sense...
we live in a "I want it the way I want it and no body , no how , is gonna make me see it any other way" world. ... spoiled ...

some of us ask these questions because we are so new to this and really do not know what we can and cant do. And the lfs around me knows even less than me and thats bad. I for one do appreciate any feedback I get whether its bad or good. I just need help!

Poster: Am I overstocked?
Board: Yes you are.
Poster: All my parameters are perfect and my fish are happy so I am OK.
Poster 2 days later: The fish I got this morning is chasing my other fish.
Board: You got another fish? You are overstokced already.
Poster 2 days later: It is OK now they have calmed down. All my paramters are perfect and my fish are happy now.
Poster 4 days later: Help Tank is crashing. Why I did not add anything new?
Board: Look at the disease section and find out what is wrong.
Poster 4 days later: They died. Oh well it is only fish. I sure am sorry about the $200 I am out though. How soon can I start over?

That's classic!
Really, all you can offer is advice and if they don't want to take it then let them fail and hope they get out of the hobby.

ANY poster who comes to this site and asks a question deserves the most honest answer, even if it is one said over and over...and even if the odds are not likely they will follow it.
But some will.
Any poster who comes to this site has the potential to listen to advice, and that puts them ahead of perhaps the majority of hobbyists who don't do a darn thing in terms of research.

I wanted to put a Yellow Tang in a 24 gallon nano when I first got here. I am SO glad that I was told the truth, and I followed it.

I believe most are in this category. If advise is given without an attitude, most will appreciate it. Some go nuts and take it personally, as criticism, in which case, forums probably is the best place for those types.
Truth is, forums such as this one is invaluable to hobbyists, especially new hobbyists.

Bad advise is expensive, good advice is priceless.

why is it that people ask the board if its okay to do something and when they know its not okay because its not the best thing to do, they ignore you...then its always the same group of people that get together and tell each other they can do it.
why bother asking in the first place if you only want to hear what you want to hear?

I realize the frustration factor, but remember there are alot like me that read posts and take in that knowledge so we don't have to ask the questions. When I first came here I didn't know about tangs, lighting requirements, etc., but by reading the posts I found out (w/o killing livestock). I've only had to ask a few questions because of all the great advice given to others.
I guess what I'm saying is that many of us never thank you for the answers we read, but you help us just the same. THANK YOU.

There is no doubt that MOST of the people here are really here to learn, or to pass on knowlege. In fact Ren has been very helpful to some newbies lately (Do I hear the Jaws theme in the background?) However the people are similar to the situation I described certainly stick in your craw.
I know my tank would be absolutely awful if it were not for this site.
