gone on the weekend

I am often gone on the weekend and i am wondering if it is better to keep the lights on or off for the whole weekend. I know there are light timers but i assume they are expensive. Thanks

I don't know about leaving the lights on over the weekend, I would assume off, and just leave the curtains open, but timers aren't that expensive. I got mine a few weeks ago for about $10.00 I think.

ok the time sound good but how does it work? I have a 55 gallon tank with one long light on it (48 inches?). This is probably dumb but does the timer some how press the on off button or what?

You leave the light (switch) on, then plug the light into the timer which turns the electricity on and off to the light.
This works great for small lights like I have, but if you are using VHO, PC or MH you will want to be sure to check the rating for the timer!!! The cheap ones we have been discussing are made to turn an ordinary table lamp or such on/off.

I found a timer light at target for $5.99. So far so good. I noticed at target they had a GE plant/aquarium light. I read the package and it looked like it would be fine for my tank. It was a lot cheaper that the ones at my pet store. Has anyone else bought a light from a non pet store?

I got my timer at Target, but I am not forsure what the price was. I works great on my tank, I didn't get anything special, just a timer.
