I am neediing to expand my cleanup crew and I noticed a popular auction site has listings for nassarius snails. Has anyone purchased them before? My main two concerns are that they are very tiny and will die or not do the job of cleaning algea and my 2nd concern is that there may be snails out there that eat corals and are bad for your tank being sold as nasarius snails. Anyone have an opinion??

I bought some of these snails from this gent and I can tell you that he is a pleasure to deal with. These snails have proven to be very hardy. The first day or two I removed a few dead but after that they have done well. Their order of business seems to be uneaten food, dead animals, fish waste/ detritus and , as a last resort, algae. I like 'em but they won't do algae like a cerith will IMO. Reef safe? Don't know. Not sure anything is truly reef safe.

I agree Nasarius are a great addition as long as that is what you are getting and the seller doesnt have them labeled wrong. I prefer to hear others say they have bought some from the auction site and everything turned out good before I spend the money.

Check the selling bb here. there is someone selling those snails very cheap, or will trade for them. I just got 50, and they are great. they really keep the sand bed turned up, and clean. they hide in the sand, and just pop up when feeding time to clean leftovers up.

just did some reading on the snails from the auction site. Some of them that are currently being sold as nasarius arent actual nasarius and arent good for your reef tank! :scared: :scared:

I bought some nassarius and they are fantastic little snails. They do not get big like other snails can so they dont have the 'plow' effect on rocks/corals. They dig under the sand quite often and apparently communicate somehow because they all seem to uncover themselves at the same time when they are ready to run around the tank.
Also for snails they are QUITE fast little buggers. Almost amazingly fast - for a snail.
