I am going to be doing the same thing. So far the best I can come up with is the smallest mag-float. If u come up with something better, please share.

i think the mallest mag float is too weak to hold up a maxi-jet PH even tho the price is good but i's a no go imo. i did a breif search online and found a Hagen ( ps? ) that might do the trick. it is only like $12 ( dont know how much shipping is yet ) but i have never played with one personally so i dont know how strong the magnet is. im just look ing for a a cheap saltwater proof magnet that will pretty much be stationary in my tank. ideas or comments welcomed

I will be able to tell u in about 2 days, when I experiment.... The reason I am trying this is someone before said they used a smaller mag-float to hold up their maxi-jets.... He said smaller, but I'm not sure if he said the smallest......I guess I will find out soon

Don't really think putting a magnet against an electric motor is gonna work out to well.

Saw on one aquarium store website magnets designed to hold Maxis (And others), although they're a tad pricy ($25 or so). They don't attach directly to the PH, but to the bracket where the suction-cups usually are.

well first off i just want to let it be know that this magnet powerhead mount is not my idea. i seen and read about it online and it seem to be a great idea. but you actually silicone the powerhead to the magnet ( about 1/8'' think of silicone) and not glues it ( as in using super glue ) . you silicone it because the 1/8'' bead of silicone will act as a vibration damper to reduce noise ( if any ) but i just need a cheap place to a saltwater proof magnet so the first thing in mind is a glass cleaner.

If you can find them get a pair of neodenium (i think thats the spelling) magnets and epoxy coat them. Think bigger harddrive magnets.

i thought of just buying any strong magnet and caot them with something but i dont feel confident that the seal will keep up in a tank with constant abuse from water and critters ( like a emarald crab or a turbo snail... them guys can chomp up coraline perdy good... ) not only that but the magnet needs to hold together with 1/2'' of glass between them.... ohh gosh.. i can see me spanding more $$ then i want to already.... but $45 is a lot to just hold up powerheads..

Marine grade epoxy was what I was meaning. But the magnets i'm talking about ,if you can find them online, are stronger than hard drive magnets. You can stick them together through your forearm and flip them up it. A couple small ones of those would do the trick if you coat em properly. I have not priced them in a LONG time. They may or may not be any cheaper. Just a suggestion. You might pester your LFS and see if they have any of those magnetic glass cleaners, that they have worn out the pads on, in their junk pile. (seems every good fishtore has a pile or what not in some unseen place heh.) Might even just give them to ya.
