Is this to much lighting I don't want to kill the fish and corals?
With this lighting will I be able to have any kind of corals?
Will I need fans in the canopy? (prob yes)
Should I look else were to find this cheaper? Is this a good deal?
I have a 55g w/ dsb about 4 inches

I had a hood from the same maker and I have to say I was really happy with it. If it was built like mine the canopy is enclosed w/fans already which helps a great deal with the heat from the MH. Seems like a lot of light to me but I guess with acclimation ur animals should be okay. I would be concerned though about heat. IMHO that seem excessive unless you have some particular corals u wish to keep that demand lots of light. maybe two 175wts?

thats a lot of light for a 55, i have 2-175 mh's and 2-96 watt pc actinics for my 75 gal, looks great, very happy with it, i also i'm running 2-4" orion fans and temp never goes above 81*...... just a thought with 250 MH's.

Get this.... for 2(175) &2 (96) it would cost me 100.00 more...
Go figure that one out.......

then I would need prob 2 fans which are 25.99 each. 2 fan guards at 9.99 each. Then build a canopy for about 100.00.
So My grand total would be
890.98 + tax...........

Maybe I should re-think this. I still need to upgrade my skimmer and filter and add a sump/fuge.

In the classifieds, some guy in an adjacent city. You may wanna check them out. You will prolly hafta replace the bulbs anyway, so look for a used set up.

It's actually
Le-O-na
My dad's best friend was Leon so they added an "a" to make it Leona which also means Lioness in spanish.

Her first name is Lauren but Liana is Hebrew meaning "gift from God", I got it out of a baby name book, I am not Hebrew or Jewish, but the names from that origin have a very pretty "twist" to them. Anyway, her nick name is Roo-roo. As an infant, she was a jumper so my hubby started calling her Roo after the winnie the pooh's roo, and Roo-roo just sorta stuck. I hate kids nick names, they usually don't make sence to an outsider, but I went and did it myself.:rolleyes:
If you or anyone you know is good with wiring, I will give you my old 175 watt metal halide ballasts. They are cheap, but they can get you started until you get something more sofisticated. You'd hafta pay shipping of course. If you are interested, I will give you more details, just e-mail me...

I upgraded to 250 Ice-caps, so these 175 ballasts are just sitting in the stand.

Wow for a 48 inch 55 gal you could even go with just a 300watt vho setup complete...prolly run u about half what ur thinking of now
