Good deal?

I was thumbing through the local paper and found a 55gal tank, stand, top and other goodies (includes fish if wanted, need to see if they are sw or fw) all for $100!! I want a bigger tank but don't think I should have a 55gal in my apartment because of the weight. Gonna check it out and maybe buy and store it till I move.

Sounds like a good deal. Water is like 8 lbs per gallon so a 55 would weigh 440 lbs + another say 100 for lr and live sand. So only 550 lbs or so. That's really not that much weight. I have a 58 on second floor of my house w/ no problems. Just think two fat people sitting on the bed or one person in a tub of full of water weigh that much.

FYI my brother had a 90 cichlid tank on the second floor of a fairly old apartment complex. No problems. All told the set up was probably half a ton. Just to be safe just make sure it against the wall where the supports are strong enough :) preferably a corner if you can manage it
