Good first fish?

I was thinking about getting a clown goby (green) as my first fish in a 20g tank with about 18 lb LR and CC bed. It appears to be near the end of the cycle and I'm trying to plan ahead a little. I will likely also get a clown at some point. Not sure which kind yet though.

Clown gobies are great. I have a yellow one in my tank and it's one of my favorite fish.
Like the others have said, a pair of clowns would be great!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone :D
A couple more questions. If I were to get 2 clowns and a green clown goby in a 20g, would that likely be the limit of fish? My fiance wants a royal gramma, but I was thinking that might be too many fish. Also, would a royal gramma go well with those fish?

They would all definately get along well; in fact, my current tank is stocked with a pair of clowns, a clown goby (albeit a yellow one), and a royal gramma. Though those four fish in a 20g would likely be too much for the bioload.

Yeah, you're right about that but they're really messy when eating. After re-reading my post I sounded snotty, sorry, that wasn't my intention. I just don't think a 20 can handle the mess caused by a Puffer.
