Sailfin tangs get roughly 16 inches so I would not recommend it in a 55 gallon.

The sailfin tang is way too large for that tank, and even if you buy it small, it WILL grow and FAST!!!!!
NO TANGS!
It's just not fair to the fish!

yeah i found one that was like 2.5 in first off it was from one of those PETstores. and then i thought about a 16in hubcap in a 55g and thought better of it

I have a sailfin tang in a 55g tank & its perfectly happy

Try to remember to buy it very young and accept the responsibility
of finding a owner that has a 125 or larger when the sailfin out grows the 55g tank.
