Good online store?

hey fellas, I am just getting into the saltwater fish hobby. I am trying to research whether I should buy the equipment from a fish store or from an online store. I imagine there is a major price difference. Do you guys know of any really good online stores? I'm sure there will be a ton of questions from me! Thanks

Personally I like the coral and fish, SWF.com store, they are far better in health and size than I have found anywhere else.. Some equipment just can't be gotten where I live, and I have to order it, like an auto top off unit.
If I can buy equipment locally, I do. It is easier to return merchandise when it is just up the street. Power heads, skimmers and such is about all they offer.

look for used equipment, you can pick up some great items for cheap.
otherwise just google the item you are after and find the best price. Each store is going to have the best price for certain items. And some stores wont even sell the brand you are after.
I've ordered fish from here, and other sites. Both were equally good.

Zero, you can always do a google search if you cannot find what you are looking for on here. As mentioned, we are not allowed to give out information about other sites. I am sure you can understand why a business would not want advertising for other businesses to occur on their site. BTW, welcome to the boards!!

so i cant PM someone an opinion on where to get other goods? i totally understand not doing on the boards for all to see but not "being allowed" to do it thru PM is BS.

They are running a business... I TOTALLY understand this and agree with their stand from a business stand point... it's not JUST a forum here -- it's a perk to their business.. but just google... there are a lot of good stores.. just make sure they are reputable, and yes you can tell reputable websites from ones that aren't and that's what I would do if this site doesn't offer what you need.
Not even Wal-Mart has everything ;)

Trying to read a forum where someone gives a good answer but the info is on another site and then seeing **** is counterproductive to a forum for information. Business reasons or not, removing links doesnt make me want to order things from here. Having a good livestock and service is why I would order, and SWF does have that for there livestock, but there service on the forums needs some coexistance and flexibility.

People man I swear. This site makes money by running a business then offers a free service to get people more involved and you think it should be okay to mention competition. Do know how dumb that sounds?

i want a certain fish. This site does not carry/have that fish. So someone says go whereever and get it. Now, swf.com doesnt lose the business because it was never in the position to get the business. Coexistance is possible and wont push people away with the hardball tactics. Argue all you want, what is done is done and they are pushing people away.

Its not about arguing. Its about respect. If this site doesnt offer a fish or product get off your lazy ass and do a search. To say okay SWF doesnt sell a Clarion angel it should be okay to post a website that does is foolish. Obviously that website sells other fish which then becomes competition.
There are other sites that allow any and all sites for fish to be listed. This isnt one of them.
To sit there and say this site is turning people away because we cant post another site that offers the same product is ignorant.

Well JDL, the other option is that they could charge a membership fee for the forum.
Do you know what it costs to maintain a website of this magnitude?
Their sandbox, their rules.

Calm down, you can all praise swf for there lack of compromise all you want. You can all tell me to go elsewhere.
Seeing how any examples i give will be responded with hostility I'll just say you all win. I'll get off my lazy (lets use the term butt for any moderation issues) and buy my stuff elsewhere.
