So it's summer time and we are in the middle of a heat wave. It got to about 105 degree here today
We have 2 airconditioners in my house that help, but it doesn't keep it a crisp 70 degrees or anything. Today is got to 83 degrees in my home, my tanks didn't seem to go much above 84, but I know that's not good.
So my idea was to freeze RO water and put some in the sump as needed to help cool the water. YES or NO???

we keep two liter bottles full of water frozen and when the temp on the 150 rises we put two of them in and it lowers it at least 2 degrees

I assume your AC's are portable?? If so, you can hang sheets to divide your room with the fish from the adjacent rooms, then put one of the AC units in the room with the tank. You can cool that room more easily this way.
Just an idea..

Thanks for the idea. The main airconditioner is about 3 feet from our 72. I can't put a sheet up for safety reasons though. (I have a daycare in my home)

Just so that I understand exactly what you did. You put the whole bottle itself in the sump with the frozen water in it. RIGHT?

I do that also (with smaller bottles). Then, when the water begins to thaw a little bit, I pour some in my sump as if it is top off water.

I use frozen water bottles in my sump during the summer. Have several on hand; they thaw pretty fast in the sump

I have used ice cubes before in a ziploc baggie, but they melt quickly and you have to keep up with it. The easiest thing is to just get a fan and put it so it blows right on the tank (blowing it just on the glass on low will cool my 24g a couple degrees).

Putting a fan in my sump lowered my tank temp 3 degrees.
I havn't fired up my MH's yet though, so I will have to have some frozen bottles on hand just in case. Fan is going inside the canopy with the MHs so that should help. Right now I keep my house at 78 and my tank doesn't go above 80. Last week we were getting up to 115, so if the power ever goes out, I'm in big trouble.

adding a fan definitely helps - mostly if your increased heat is more from your lighting. When I added my T5's, my temp went up 3-4 degrees when the lights were on. Adding a small fan (4inch) from walmart prevented this.
But if your temp in your house is up, it gets hard to cool down with just a fan.

luckily I'm in a part of the country that we go only barely above 100 degrees and usually only for 5 or 6 days total each summer, so usually the house doesn't go above 78. I would add a fan to the sump, but I am out of plug in near the tank. it's nice to know that I am not the only one needing to improvise. good luck during the summer to all

regretably we cant fit them under the stand to go in the sump so we put them right into the dt the fish dont mind aat all - the tang even mills around them for a minute right after we put them in
